POSITION SUMMARY:

Pyramid Breweries, a leading brewer of craft beers and specialty sodas is seeking an effective Brewery Manager who is able to manage multiple priorities, prioritize and problem solve quickly and efficiently, while staying attuned to the morale and performance of his or her staff.  This position is responsible to oversee all operations at the Portland Brewery including Brewing, Cellaring, Laboratory, Packaging/Draft production, Warehouse, Maintenance departments operation, and plant administration including maintenance of plant operating budget, hours/payroll, TTB and other government agency reporting.  Lead brewery department managers and labor staff to ensure the safe and efficient production of all products at the highest possible quality level.  Have a thorough understanding of Food Plant Production based on Experience and Learned Science makes Leading Personnel and Managing the Production Process more effective. 

DUTIES INCLUDE:

  • Ensure that all Brewery Production and Shipping Schedules are met in a safe, efficient manner.  Oversee all plant process and production issues. Lead Portland Brewery to achieve the defined plant mission within Pyramid Breweries Inc.
  • Lead and Supervise Brewery Department Managers, develop all employees toward reaching the potential of their ability, maximize employee productivity.
  • Oversee and Manage Plant Administration in all departments. Evaluate, and provide reports both internally and for the TTB, and other government agencies (OSHA claims, state FDA, USDA, County, etc.).
  • Manage Plant Operating Budget, create and oversee Capital Budgets.  Approve all brewery expenditures, verify receipts, oversee and manage raw materials inventory accounting and reconciliation. Ensure plant operation and spending falls within budgetary limits for all controllable costs. Develop and maintain fiscal responsibility among all employees. 
  • Oversee all plant hiring, manager and employee evaluations, and disciplinary actions.
  • Oversee all relationships between brewery department managers and brewery’s vendors and contractors.
  • Leadership Role Model, Advisor and Councilor to all brewery department managers and employees.
  • Oversee brewery department managers’ development and implementation of operator and process procedures.
  • Maintain familiarity with all control and regulatory legislation and responsibilities related to production of beer and soda within the Portland plant, including working with the representatives of government agencies.
  • Familiarity with all electrical and mechanical systems, as well as theory related to brewing and the brewing industry, including keeping abreast of new brewing specific research and development.
  • Liaison between Brewery and other departments within the company.
  • Serve as a representative of Pyramid Breweries in public forums.
  • Various other duties as assigned.

 

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • HS diploma with strong background in college level Math, Science, Business, and Communications. Prefer a 4-Year college degree – Business, Operations, Engineering or Management with strong Math and Science background. 
  • 5-years or more in the brewing industry
  • Diploma in a  accredited or acknowledged brewing course or and/or 5-years brewing experience with a large craft or regional/national brewer
  • 5-years or more in a management position
  • Technical Proficiency in Brewing Science and Packaging Technology
  • Personnel Management and Leadership experience
  • Budgetary and Financial Management experience
  • Strong communication skills both written and verbal
  • Understanding of Process Control Automation – Analogue, PLC and field instrumentation
  • Working application of Science and Math
  • Working application of Engineering and Physics
  • Organizational Skills
  • Computer Proficiency (Excel, Word, Access, PowerPoint, Computer Enhanced Drawing)
  • Basic Knowledge of Federal and Local Legislation regarding Alcohol, Labor, and Operations (Air, Sewer, Gas, Pressure Vessels, etc.)
  • Negotiating Skills
  • Able to interface professionally with vendors, customers and other external contact when representing the company.
